Beesands is ideally situated to discover the South Hams of Devon located on the beach in Start Bay, with views toward Dartmouth Harbour entrance and Start Point Lighthouse (open throughout the year to visitors please check opening times). The village is actually on the South West Coastal Path which makes The Cricket Inn a Mecca for walkers, within the village is a large fresh water lake complete with bird hide ideal for bird watchers and only a short walk along the coastal path to the famous Slapton Ley Nature Reserve in Torcross. Torcross is also famous for ‘Operation Tiger’ where many American servicemen lost their lives during World War 2 practising for the D-Day landings there is a Sherman Tank and a memorial to commemorate this sad day.
The area is surrounded by National Trust land and properties to visit with The Dartmoor National Park only 20miles away, Buckfast Abbey a stunning example of a working Monastery and Castle Drogo an outstanding modern Castle, to name but a few.
